Matchstick Monkey was born when new mum, Katie Windridge, couldn’t find anything to sooth her baby’s teething pain. At just one-month-old, baby Minnie’s pain was constant; she wouldn’t settle and refused every teething toy. Katie realised there had to be a better solution and, inspired by her daughter’s love of monkeys, the original designs for Matchstick Monkey were created.
Katie, now Mummy to Minnie, Coco & Bailey, launched Matchstick Monkey in 2016 with the help of Touker Suleyman of BBC Two’s Dragons’ Den. And the rest is history!
PROJECT DELIVERABLES
- Brand development
- Logo design
- Packaging design
- Shopify website
- Ongoing support
Akiko worked with Kate to develop the Matchstick Monkey brand to appeal to the mother and baby market and reflect the fun, stylish nature of the product. We created the monkey character which was used in the logotype. All the brand elements – colour palette, typography, photography styles – were then rolled out across all audience touch points from the website and social media channels to the product packaging.
Matchstick Monkey uses the Shopify platform for eCommerce, blogging and parent reviews. Akiko provides ongoing support to continuously improve UX and SEO.
Today the product range (which now includes a host of other animals) is stocked by a number of retailers including JoJo Mamon Bébé, Mamas & Papas and John Lewis.
Matchstick Monkey has received multiple awards including Gold Mother & Baby Awards in 2019 and 2020.
